Electronic security has
become a big part of what we do. Electronic locks with remote
controls, access control systems and even camera systems are now part
of our daily routine as well as installing deadbolt locks. Part of our job is to
advise you, the purchaser, on the best product for your needs.
It is unfortunate that
we have seen “look-a-like” locks and toy locks brought to the market. The term “Buyer beware” is
apt when you can buy (what looks like) a lock for one dollar.
Just about everything
we do is a form of automation. From
automatic door closers to proximity card access systems, it all fits in
the category of automation. Some
systems have become able to function without us for periods of time. If not designed correctly
these systems fail us when we need them.
CCTV is one aspect of security where automation has gone
too far. We can use
a camera to replace a person acting as a sentinel.
Then we can replace the watcher of the camera with a
recording unit. The
process has become an automated loop.
This is a problem when
a camera fails or the recorder stops recording.
Nobody knows.
With SSI designing a
CCTV system for you we often integrate the CCTV system with your Alarm
System. If a camera
goes down or the DVR stops recording you get a phone call immediately. Too often we see a crime
go unrecorded by an expensive CCTV System that was unplugged.
Integration of the different types of security systems is a big part of what we do. Spending thousands of dollars on a sophisticated card access control system hardly makes sense when it can be defeated by a two dollar key that anyone can copy at the corner store. Using the right system for your needs is an essential part of security. Security must be easy or it will not be used.
