Various credentials can be used.  Swipe cards are not often recommended as they require maintenance.

Proximity cards and tags work very well, with little wear and tear.  Simply hold the card or tag up to the sensor and the lock will be released.  No need to remove the card from your pocket or purse.

Access codes can be used and no credential is required.

Biometrics is a fancy word that means we measure some part of your body that is unique to you and that becomes your credential.  Thumb prints and face recognition are both available.
