DOWNTOWN TORONTO
Offices, Storefronts and Factories

Every door needs a lock.  Make it a good one.

The average lock installed by Spadina Security will work for 10 to 25 years without fail.

The average lock installed by a builder or purchased from a big box hardware store (for under $20) will only last one to four years.

Unlike most hardware stores we do not have much repeat business.  Our locks sometimes out last our customers.  Instead, we count on referrals from customers who are happy with the quality of their locksets year after year.  You may have heard of Spadina Security Inc. from a friend or colleague who is happy with our service.

OFFICE SECURITY

Every office in Toronto requires a basic level of protection.

A monitored alarm system, a good deadbolt lock, and an inspection to reinforce the common entry points that burglars use.  Toronto Police have crime prevention officers who's job it is to help you defend your business from attack.  There is no charge to you to have your local crime prevention officer come down to your office and give you expert advice about the ways burglars are entering offices in your area - even in your building.

GET INFORMED!  Read the Toronto Police's Annual Report to find out how many break and enters occurred in your area of the city.  There were 5,744 reported break and enters to Toronto businesses in 2005.  The Police arrested 1,861 burglars in the same year.

Offices are targeted at night when workers have gone home.  Burglars look for the weak spots in your security and pry those flaws open with brute force to access your property.  Often, the damage they do will  cost you more in repairs than the value of the stolen property was worth.

Our locksmith can install good quality deadbolts and locksets with a high security strike plate (left).  Mul-T-Lock Hercular Deadbolt locks come with a box type high security strike plate (right).  These strikes use long screws to keep the wood frame from splitting when force is applied.

We can also help by installing and monitoring your alarm system and other electronic security devices like Video Cameras, Intercoms and Access Control Systems.

STOREFRONT SECURITY

Store front businesses are often victimized by burglars.  This bakery was closed for the morning rush because a burglar felt he or she was entitled to the money used as a float in their cash register.  For the $100 that was in the till the burglar broke the glass in the door and the cash register.  The small business owner lost over $1,000 for that $100 burglary.

There are many things we do to protect stores.  High security Mul-T-Lock deadbolts and cylinders, latch guards, alarm systems and window bars all work together to ensure that even if the burglar does get in he or she will not get very much.

Window bars and locks make it more difficult for a burglar to gain access to your premises.

Alarm systems limit the amount of time these thieves spend in your store - they know that the guards are on the way.

Let’s make them work.

BUSINESS SECURITY TIPS

1)  Change your keys - this should be done every couple of years (or sooner) if your keys can be copied at the corner store.

2)  Pretend you are a burglar - case your store or office.  Think like a burglar.  How would you get in.  Then make it harder for the burglar to get in the same way.

3)  The top entry points are the front and back door.  Make sure these doors are secure.

4)  When changing windows ask for laminated glass.  It looks the same but it is actually two sheets of glass with a sheet of plastic glued between them.  This glass is very difficult to break and even when it does break it does not fall out of the way so the would-be burglar can not just walk through the opening.

5)  Don't go cheap on locks.  If you buy a $10 lock from a dollar store don't be surprised when a burglar easily enters your store and takes $10,000 worth of merchandise.

Spadina Security Incorporated has started to recommend that your lock have tougher features.  Key Control, Pick Resistance and Tamper Resistance are becoming more and more necessary as burglars acquire the knowledge and skills to defeat common locks.

All doors should be checked for the above criteria.  Remember Toronto Police recommends you install a deadbolt lock on all exterior doors.

These deadbolt locks should have these minimum features:

1.  One inch (1”) throw on bolt

2.  Bolt should be dead locking

3.  Lock should have a free-spinning collar

4.  The key should have a minimum of five (5) cuts
